Only the capital city of Williamsburg would be host to printers prior to 1774. In that year, Norfolk saw the establishment of a single (Williamsburg-trained) printer for a brief period. Because so much of Virginia's eighteenth-century printing history is based in Williamsburg, almost all of the program's work revolves around this city.
