
This plate is made of typemetal as was probably nailed to a piece of wood when it placed on the press to give it extra rigidity and bring it to the correct type height for printing. This artifact was found on the Printing Office site (Block 18, Lot #48) during the second phase of archeological digs in 1957.
Note that the face of the plate itself is damaged. This may have been done purposely
to
prevent it from being used to produce counterfeit currency notes after the initial legal
run was complete.

This currency note is thought to have been printed using the seal of the commonwealth pictured above.
